The Penner's
We’re the Penner family, and life here on the farm is a mix of beauty and chaos. Cows calving at 2 a.m., kids leaving boots in the doorway, suppers that sometimes get eaten standing at the kitchen island… and yet, we wouldn’t trade it.
Farming has been in our family for over 65 years. What started with just eleven cows has grown into something much bigger—but the heartbeat is still the same: do the work with gratitude, raise good food, and make room at the table for others.

We recently picked up our first meat order. Laurie was so helpful and knowledgeable and showed us a variety of other cuts and items she recommended and we were happy to add a few more things. We have tried a few items already and have been very impressed with the quality and flavor of the meat! We enjoyed the ribeye steaks immensely—done to perfection on the smoker!! YUM!

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Great question! Wagyu originated in Japan, but today farmers around the world raise Wagyu cattle. At Benner Beef, we raise Holstein cattle crossed with Wagyu to bring you that signature buttery marbling and incredible flavour—raised right here in Manitoba.
Our cows are fed grass continuously (in the form of silage and alfalfa) and supplemented when necessary. The supplements we use are canola meal and protein pellets. For finishing, we use a carefully balanced feed mix of silage, corn, and canola meal to bring out the best flavour and marbling.
Nope. Never. We don’t use growth hormones at Benner Beef.
Only if absolutely necessary—for example, if a calf is sick in its first few months of life. Healthy animals are our top priority, and we use antibiotics sparingly and responsibly.
No, we aren’t certified organic. We focus on producing the highest quality beef we can by growing excellent hay and feed. To keep our crops healthy, we spray them once a year, following recommended guidelines, so our cattle have the best possible nutrition.
Our butcher tells us the regular beef is close to an 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio. Wagyu ground beef will naturally be less lean, since Wagyu cattle are more marbled and finish with higher fat content—that’s where all that flavour comes from!
Yes. All of our beef is processed at a provincially inspected facility, so you can be confident in the safety and quality of every cut.
Our ground beef comes in vacuum-sealed flat packs—easy to stack in your freezer and simple to thaw for quick meals. Steaks and roasts are also vacuum-sealed for freshness and convenience.
Yes, you can! You can order half or whole animals, cut and wrapped to your specifications. It’s a great way to fill your freezer and save.
